Enhancing Data Comparison in ExposureIQ
Overview
As a UX Designer for Moody’s ExposureIQ, I led the design of a dedicated portfolio comparison experience to help portfolio managers identify trends, variations, and risks across multiple portfolios and accumulation runs. The existing comparison flow was fragmented, hidden within Data Explorer, and lacked intuitive navigation or visual clarity—leading to workflow inefficiencies and cognitive overload.
Our goal was to deliver a seamless, scalable, and visually rich comparison tool that aligned with user needs and business objectives.
I led the UX effort for this initiative—from discovery through delivery—collaborating closely with PMs, engineers, and stakeholders. My contributions included:

-
Conducting research and synthesizing user pain points across multiple feedback sources
-
Mapping existing comparison workflows and identifying critical UX gaps
-
Designing wireframes and interactive prototypes across table, report, and map views
-
Iterating on design based on usability testing and stakeholder feedback
-
Collaborating with the development team to translate designs into implementation-ready specs
-
Ensuring consistency with ExposureIQ’s evolving design system and shared components

Our Solution
Our design focused on delivering clarity, control, and consistency across the comparison experience. Key solution elements included:

-
Dedicated Comparison Page
-
Removed comparisons from the overloaded Data Explorer
-
Created a standalone comparison interface with preserved breadcrumb context
-
-
Multi-View Visualization
-
Designed tabular, report, and map views to support different comparison needs
-
Visual indicators for loss differences, outliers, and model variations
-
-
Streamlined Navigation
-
Simplified movement between comparison types and data states
-
Improved breadcrumb logic to prevent context loss
-

Impact
The final solution improved both the user experience and business outcomes:

-
30% Faster Workflow – Users completed portfolio comparisons more quickly and confidently
-
Improved Decision Making – Visual insights helped users spot variations and risks faster
-
Positive User Feedback – Stakeholders noted smoother navigation and clearer data presentation
-
Better Context Retention – Comparison state is now preserved, even when navigating back
Process and Challenges
We followed a collaborative, iterative design process to ensure the final experience met user needs:
-
Discovery & Research
-
Collected insights from Jira tickets, internal teams, and usability sessions
-
Identified that comparisons launched from Data Explorer created cognitive overload
-
Noted that comparisons were not housed on a dedicated page, and breadcrumb logic caused users to lose context
-
-
Wireframing & Prototyping
-
Created flows for general, time-series, and cross-portfolio comparisons
-
Explored different layout strategies to surface variation clearly without clutter
-
-
Usability Testing & Iteration
-
Conducted feedback sessions to refine navigation and visual design
-
Prioritized improvements to interaction clarity and page-to-page context continuity
-
-
Collaboration & Delivery
-
Worked closely with engineers to align technical feasibility and user goals
-
Documented design specs and supported Jira ticket breakdown for implementation
